Does The Government Want To Run Power Lines Through Your Property?

Turn to a trusted Minnesota eminent domain attorney who will protect your rights so you receive just compensation.

What Are Your Rights During An Eminent Domain Proceeding?

Simply put, the government uses eminent domain to take private land for public use. This process is traditionally used for building roads, parks and other public projects, such as power transmission lines. However, the U.S. Constitution and Minnesota property laws protect landowners, stipulating that private property may not be taken without just compensation. Many go to court when the government’s offer is unfair.

If the government announces a new project affecting your land, seeking knowledgeable legal guidance is crucial. The government will inspect and value your property before making an offer. Evenson Decker, P.A. can provide essential guidance in determining whether to accept or proceed to formal eminent domain proceedings, where you can request additional damages for the loss of your property.

Utility Companies Unveil Power Line Projects Near St. Cloud

In early October 2023, six electricity providers, led by Xcel Energy and Otter Tail Power, filed a request with the state to construct a new power transmission line from Big Stone City, S.D., to Becker. The line would run approximately 200 miles.

The utility companies plan to construct new transmission towers from South Dakota to Alexandria. Two other proposals were previously filed, one running from St. Cloud north to Grand Rapids. Once the exact routes are known, it’s advisable for affected landowners to seek legal guidance promptly. Evenson Decker, P.A. is dedicated to protecting your rights.
